New Orleans – A man from Baton Rouge East is suing 71 companies that he claims exposed him to dangerous asbestos fibers.
The lawsuit was filed by Johnny Burton on 19th April in the Civil District Court in Orleans Parish.
Burton says he developed asbestos-related lung cancer because of his job with the USS Bonne Home Richard as a seaman and as a pipefitter in various locations at Baton Rouge. Burton believes the repairs he performed for his vehicles and home also have contributed to his disease.
Burton says the defendant corporations are liable for his condition as they produced, distributed, sold or managed asbestos substances.
The plaintiff is seeking unspecified damages for medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish and lost earnings.
Judge Piper Griffin will preside over the case.
