Firefighters Relocated over Asbestos Concerns

Philadelphia firefighters were compelled to relocate because of chances of asbestos exposure inside the firehouse building.

Philly Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said Ladder 15 firehouse at Foulkrod Street requires urgent repair. Apart from Ladder 15, the structure also accommodates Medic Unit 47.

Richard Davison, the Executive Chief of the Fire Department, said workers found something appears to be asbestos wrapped around pipes in the firehouse. Firefighters and Medic Unit 47 were relocated at once.

Davison said his department has hired a contractor for testing the pipes to ensure that the structure is totally safe and free of asbestos.

Medic Unit 47 and Ladder 15 firefighters were relocated to nearby firehouses. Philly citizens can still receive their services.
