St. Louis – The Department of Health in the St. Louis City has announced the details regarding asbestos tests conducted after the steam line rupture last week.
According to the department, two air samples came back positive for asbestos on Monday night.
The samples showed positive for asbestos were taken from the area close to the Globe Democrat building and the Lucas Apartments.
The Department said the residents are needless to be evacuated.
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral which was once used widely for various construction and industrial purposes. Its hazards became known after 1972. Asbestos releases its minute fibers into the air when it is disturbed or broken. If these fibers are breathed in, one may develop respiratory problems and even fatal diseases including cancer.
