NY – State investigators started looking into the asbestos at Nassau Coliseum after receiving complaints from the workers, according to a Labor Department spokesperson.
The workers say many areas of the multi-purpose indoor arena are covered with asbestos.
Photos given by the workers’ attorneys showed a white material on the walls and floor of the arena’s boiler room.
The asbestos inquiry started as numerous parents and children visited the Coliseum for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Stephanie Coons, a pregnant woman with two children, said she was upset and shocked after hearing the news.
The workers say two of their colleagues have developed cancer and mesothelioma, which they believe because of asbestos present in the building.
