The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued three entities a fine of approximately $36,000 for illegally storing dangerous asbestos, according to the department officials.
CJS Holdings (Southborough), Clifford J Schorer III (Boston) and 2 Commercial Street Realty Trust 2008 (Provincetown) were fined for violating asbestos safety regulations during activities carried out in 2010 at the Trust’s Provincetown property and CJS Holdings’ Southborough property.
DEP investigators discovered that Schorer had removed insulation and transit panels containing asbestos illegally from the Provincetown cite and took them to the facility at Southborough. The Southborough facility is not approved for storing or disposing of asbestos debris.
$4,000 of the fines has to be paid right away. The department also required an authorized contractor cleanup the asbestos from the properties.
