Residents at a 53-year-old Vancouver Eastside apartment are worried that their asbestos-containing building is undergoing renovation without offering any protective measures for tenants.
The tenants in the building at 1850 Adanac are asking to stop the renovations. Initially they were asked to leave the units slated for renovation and later they were informed they should pay extra money to shift to other units.
The tenants have planned a rally Tuesday at 10 AM outside the apartment building.
Shane Simpson, the MLA for Vancouver-Hastings, said the building is full of asbestos. He said all samples tested after a fire in 2009 showed the presence of asbestos.
